I’ve been a bit busy with a few things as of late, including personal matters as well as the next major submission for the blog. It’s coming and will be ready in due time. Until then, here’s a brief one.
I was reminded of the existence of Brave Browser once again in the past few days when a friend of mine touted how he used it for a while. I heard about the browser multiple times over the years, but just never felt interested enough in actually using it much.
However, just like how I tend to use Bing search just to get the rewards points, my friend used Brave for a while just to get money in the form of BAT (Basic Attention Token). He told me he made around $35 simply for using the browser, which sounds pretty cool to me.
The only thing that stopped me from giving it a real shake for a while was how it affects creators by blocking their ads and replacing them with a separate series of ads from Brave. However, I was recently made aware of the Brave Creator program, which makes some of the BAT from those ads available to creators who have applied, so I’ve signed up for that. (I’m still waiting for some of the services to get back to me on having an approved account, however.)
Maybe it’s high time I use Brave Browser for once. I’ve used many others like Vivaldi (probably my favorite browser right now), Firefox, Edge, Librewolf, Opera, and others. Perhaps I should finally give Brave a real try instead of just a cursory glance. Maybe it’ll take Vivaldi’s place as my favorite in due time?
I’ve taken the liberty of installing Brave on my Arch machine and phone (I’ll have it on my Fedora laptop soon) and will be giving it a spin. Just like I did when I tried to switch to a “dumbphone,” I’ll go for the sweet spot of one week and write back with my thoughts over those days.
Anyone out there use Brave as a default or primary browser? How is it for you? Have you earned a lot in BAT? How’s their search engine offering working for you compared to Google or Bing?
